The way organizations receive, identify, and grant access to visitors is undergoing a radical transformation. While receptions and security services currently still primarily work with physical identity documents, visitor passes, and manual checks, new developments are emerging. With the expected widespread introduction of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) at the end of 2026, millions of citizens will be able to identify themselves digitally via their smartphones. This calls for a new approach to reception, security, and access processes.
During this forward-looking lecture, Jasper Peterse addresses the question of how digital IDs are changing the way organizations receive, identify, and grant access to visitors in buildings. Digital identity directly impacts the practice of facility management and building management. The transition from physical documents to mobile IDs brings both challenges and opportunities. Using practical examples, the following themes, among others, will be covered:
– Validation and fraud: how do you reliably verify the authenticity of a digital ID?
– High security zones: what solutions are available when smartphones are not allowed?
– From visitor pass to digital token: what does this mean for visibility and security in the building?
– Privacy and compliance: how do digital Wallets contribute to data minimization and better privacy?
All of this changes the role of the employee. Digital IDs offer opportunities for greater efficiency and self-service. Administrative registration processes are increasingly fading into the background, causing the role of reception and security staff to shift towards coordination, hospitality, and high-quality service.
Jasper Peterse concludes his lecture with a concrete vision of the reception of tomorrow. Exhibition visitors receive not only inspiration but also practical tools to start thinking today about the design of reception, security, and access control in a digital future.
