Light can promote people's health, but it also affects the financial well-being of companies and other organizations. With current global developments, health has taken on a different meaning for many of us, as has vulnerability. Light is often an underestimated factor in this. How important is light, and what impact does it have on us as individuals in the individual workplace and collective work environment?
Given current global developments, everything is seen in a different light. Society as visitors previously knew it is (temporarily) structured differently. Government measures affect them not only as citizens, but also as employees, entrepreneurs, or employers. While one organization experiences significant economic growth, another must pull out all the stops to maintain its viability.
During the coronavirus pandemic, organizations had to set up workplaces that maintained a distance of one and a half meters, and in some cases even mandated and facilitated working from home. While working from home proves to be a true solution for some, for others, it's pushed to the limit. While theoretically, there are many possibilities, in practice, it turns out that not everything can be implemented equally well. In short, various external factors cause employees to reorganize their work and develop qualities that may not initially be mentioned in job descriptions. Intrinsic strengths and development areas become apparent in the employee or within the employee.
Besides the practical side, this also affects the economic side of companies and organizations. How can we continue to offer every employee the best possible and healthy work environment without exhausting all company budgets? Is budgeting still necessary? How do we maintain our position and overcome these developments with minimal losses—in departments, employees, customers, and, of course, figures? But at the same time, we also need to keep pace with the developments of the present and the future, and strive for progress toward the statutory sustainability standard (EED), the assessment of which will take effect in 2020, energy saving obligations, NEN (Netherlands Standard for Standards for Energy Efficiency), and occupational health and safety legislation and regulations. And what role does lighting play in all of this?
