Safely store equipment with lithium-ion batteries

April 22, 2025 | From the editors

Lithium-ion batteries are popular for their high energy density and long lifespan. From laptops to electric bicycles, these batteries power much of our everyday technology. But using lithium-ion batteries also has a downside: the increased risk of fire. A solution for safely storing equipment with lithium-ion batteries...

Using lithium-ion batteries carries several risks of fire or explosion. The main causes are:
  • Overheating: Overloading or improperly charging batteries can lead to overheating and possible fire.
  • Physical damage: A damaged battery can cause a short circuit, which can also result in fire.
  • Improper storage: Storing batteries in unsuitable environments may increase the risk of fire.
Given the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, it's wise to ensure safe storage and charging methods. Specialized lockers are one such innovative solution because of their:
  • Fire resistance if the lockers are designed with fire-resistant materials and can provide up to 90 minutes of fire resistance.
  • Smoke and temperature detection: Equipped with advanced detection systems, these lockers can monitor smoke and temperature, and send instant notifications via SMS or email.
  • Aerosol fire extinguishing systems: In the event of a fire, an aerosol fire extinguishing system can be quickly activated to fight the fire.

The use of lithium-ion batteries is expected to increase in the coming years. This makes the need for safe storage and charging even more urgent.
