Artis opts for sustainable water drinking

May 13, 2026 | From the editors

In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly important, Artis is taking a notable step. The zoo decided to make its soft drink range more sustainable by partnering with KRNWTR+. This partnership resulted in the introduction of a unique syrup bar, allowing visitors to enjoy their drinks responsibly.

The decision to ban plastic bottles aligns with the growing need for healthy alternatives. Laura de Jong, Assistant General Manager at Vermaat, emphasizes that sustainability and waste reduction were the key considerations in the development of this new catering establishment. By offering lemonade without single-use packaging, Artis contributes to a cleaner planet.

The syrup bar is strategically placed in a busy location within the park, increasing visibility and impact. In a year alone, Artis expects no less than 13.400 single use to save bottles. This initiative not only results in less waste, but also in faster service and cost savings.

Artis demonstrates that sustainability is not just a buzzword, but an integral part of their business operations. With the message “Think of the planet,” it becomes clear that the zoo takes responsibility, not only for the animals, but also for the visitors and the earth.
