In the center of Nijmegen , the Wandelend Park attracts attention. The park consists of 35 planters with trees and plants and five colorful benches, all made of recycled plastic. Every three months, the park moves to a different location in the city center. As a result, it constantly changes shape and size, providing a touch of greenery in the city.
The project emphasizes the importance of biodiversity and urban greening. Green spaces enhance livability, reduce heat stress, and make the city more attractive. It aligns with the Nijmegen city marketing themes Young Vibe and Health & HighTech.
The benches, from the Loop collection by Danish manufacturer out-sider, are made of 85% recycled polyethylene and 15% reused plastic bags. Artist Vincent William (Combolution) gave the benches a vibrant look with colorful paintings. Because they are weighted with water, they can be easily moved to the next location without anchoring.
With the Wandelend Park , Nijmegen shows how sustainability, art, and quality of life can go hand in hand.
